Stress: our “enemy”

There are two types of people: the ones that believe that they control their own faith and the ones that let life control them. The first group believes that they hold their future and career in their own hands, they wouldn’t want it any other way. The second group lets stress lead them through life.

What makes the first group different from the others? Like the rest of us, they also feel stress and anxiety, the difference is the way they handle them. Stress is their ally not their enemy. It’s a force that pushes them forward. Obstacles are only new challenges they need to overcome.

Whether they get fired, are in debt or just had a bad day at work, they never give up, but double their efforts. Good control over our emotions in stressful situations will have a positive effect on our success. Anxiety is an important emotion. Stress is often the driving force of new inspiration and innovative ideas.

It should be noted that chronic stress can lead to depression. There is positive and negative stress. Everybody needs to manage excessive stress in their own way. Whether it’s hiking, meditating, exercising, hanging out with friends it’s up to us to manage it as we see fit.

For example, Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, said that the cause of stress is inactivity. He likes to bury himself in work when he starts feeling anxiety. While Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, believes just the opposite. She likes to take a break once in a while. Taking time to relax helps clear her mind and see the problem from a different perspective.

One thing’s for sure. Don’t stress over how you deal with stress. Just do whatever works. And remember, stress is not always our enemy. With good control over our emotions and positive attitude it can lead us and to success.
